The Prodigal's Lament
The sound of children playing, laughing, singing,
A sunny day at my childhood home
in my memory lingering
I fell and lay on the ground
I was lifted up
As a hand reached down.
My Father
One day the glitter and glow lured me
To wander
Away from home, the truths I'd known
The ways of my Father
The journey was my own
No restraints to confound me.
Seeking the rainbow's end
Allusions surrounded me.
I close my eyes
And I can see
He waits there for me
Watching from the window
With love and hope eternal
Waiting for the day
I'll return
Oh, so many times
In this lonely life of mine
I've dreamed to see the day.
Can I find my way
Back to His home and heart?
My true home,
My true heart.
So tomorrow,
just like today.
I'll arise, I'll exist, but I'm still
So far away.
The emptiness in my heart
Is calling me back home.
I know my Father's waiting
I know where I belong.
Father, I'm coming home
I'm coming home.
